As I watched a friend make a print in our high school darkroom, the magic of seeing a sheet of blank photographic paper slowly reveal an image in a tray of clear liquid instantly captivated me, sparking a passion that has never dimmed. I went on to study photography (though I am largely self-taught) and eventually became a professional photographer, working in photojournalism and the commercial realm for some three decades, first in New York City and then in Loudoun County, VA. Commissions encompassed everything from portraits to editorial illustration, architecture to jewelry. My fourteen years as photographer for the Loudoun Ballet Company remain an especially treasured memory.
In 2017 I returned to photography to work on my own, refocusing my approach solely on the black-and-white silver image and archival silver-gelatin prints made in the traditional darkroom — the medium I have always loved most. I am now working on personal projects and accepting private students.
Music has also been an artistic home for me, from my earliest years, when singing was part of each day. Growing up a son of a world-famous classical musician, I also learned piano, which I continue to play (purely amateur). My formative years in rural and suburban New England gave me an appreciation of natural beauty as well. These, my later my growing involvement in visual art, and my belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to develop his or her potential without suffering an imposed deprivation of precious, inalienable rights, led me decades ago to my continuing engagement in the international cultural and policy-shaping work of the late Lyndon LaRouche, and his wife Helga (who, I am honored to say, became friends in addition to mentors), work for a new renaissance which, happily, is beginning to be realized today.
Why lead a boring life?
